ForWord
ForWord, a BorderSenses project, is a youth program designed to offer quality academic and artistic opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds through exposure to the literary arts. ForWord counts on the support of the organization’s editors, administrators, and literary community to promote and conduct the workshops, and provide a multidisciplinary experience for participants. In the past, ForWord has hosted workshops at the El Paso Public Library Main Branch, the International Museum of Art, El Paso History Museum, Ciudad Nueva, EPCC libraries and Literary Fiesta, Glasbox Studios, UTEP’s Upward Bound Program, the Boys and Girls Clubs of El Paso, YWCA, Borderland Rainbow Center, and have partnered with Jefferson, Del Valle, Bowie, El Paso, and Hanks High Schools.
Each year, ForWord collaborates with a new venue to host at least one of the workshops in order to reach various communities. Upon completion of each years’ series of workshops, students are encouraged to submit their creative work to ForWord’s yearly chapbook competition which publishes student poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. ForWord’s work culminates each year with their chapbook release party, giving students an opportunity to celebrate and share their work with the El Paso community.
